Sustainability should be at the root of the activities of every industry, especially mining. PNIA members regard themselves as not only stewards of the earth, but stewards of the communities we operate in. We at PNIA continuously strive towards our operations while maximizing our contributions towards sustainable and high-impact initiatives that benefit the country and its people.

The United Nations Development Plan has reported that the mining industry has various roles and contributions towards SDGs through job creation, spurring of innovation and attractive investments into otherwise economically remote areas, and the construction of infrastructure, among others. There is truly life in mining. When done cooperatively, sustainably, and responsibly, there are no limits to what responsible mining operations can contribute to local communities, the environment, and the economy.

Though the end-products of what we mine can already be seen everywhere from our day-to-day lives and are used across all industries, we aim to showcase that there are contributions of the mining sector that are even more holistic, developmental, and invaluable to our stakeholders, such as the impact of our operations on their health and wellness, safety, education, and economic progression.

In PNIA’s first SDG report entitled Global Goals, Local Actions: Sustainability as Our Way of Life in Nickel Mining, the association showcased the contributions of the mining sector that are even more holistic, developmental, and invaluable to our stakeholders, such as the impact of our operations on their health and wellness, safety, education, and economic progression.

PNIA commits to focus on three SDGs in particular, SDG 1 No Poverty, SDG 3 Good Health and Wellbeing, and SDG 15 Life on Land. These are the three SDGs that benefit most from our resources and financial contributions as they are requirements under the Social Development and Management Programs and the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programs of our members.

Hand in hand with the national government and our local government partners, we look forward to continuously serving the Filipino people through our various initiatives and programs.
