We thank the Commission on Appointments for giving the Philippine Nickel Industry Association the opportunity to speak and be heard before the committee.
We thank the CA for giving us the chance to present before the Honorable Commission facts to counter fallacies and be given the opportunity to present what is at stake–the downfall of a thriving industry in the country and the loss of jobs and opportunities for future generations of Filipinos.
While we respect and share Gina Lopez’s passion for the environment, the DENR needs a competent Secretary–one that adheres to the law and not create nor impose their own policies to suit their own personal agenda. The facts we presented show that Gina Lopez is incompetent to lead the DENR.
These and her glaring conflicts of interest that clash with her position as DENR Secretary-Designate are why we are vehemently opposing Gina Lopez’s appointment.
What we need is a Secretary who is competent in balancing environmental stewardship with developing the natural resources of the country.
We reiterate the fact that we are, and will always be, responsible miners. We are partners with the Philippine Government in providing better lives for Filipinos.
