Marcventures Mining and Development Corporation (MMDC) has completed major infrastructure projects in 2018, all aimed at improving community road safety to enable mine site accessibility.
The completed projects include the widening of the 1.8 kilometer Panikian haul road on the active mine areas, and the bridges of Cabangahan, Alamio, and Banban where major river systems run through several Surigao del Sur towns.
MMDC General Manager Rodrigo Cal said the Panikian road widening primarily aims to establish a dedicated mine road that does not traverse with the existing provincial highway.
In so doing, Cal said safety is assured among company personnel and community members, while improving travel times for the company’s hauling equipment.
“Our primary concern here is safety and convenience for community residents, while resulting in transport efficiency for the company’s operations,” Cal said.
The three bridges, meanwhile, assure full access to its active mine areas.
Cal said the three bridges can be used by the community for its own use even after the end of MMDC’s mine life.
All infrastructure projects were completed earlier than the target dates.
