For the first time, the mining firm Agata Mining Ventures Inc. (AMVI) received a presidential award.
AMVI – a nickel laterite joint venture company of TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) and MRL Nickel Philippines – was honored Friday night with the prestigious Presidential Mineral Industry Environment Award (PMIEA).
PMIEA is the highest award that the government gives in the mining sector.
Given during the Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference (ANMSEC) held in Baguio, PMIEA was established under Executive Order No. 399 in compliance with the policy that mineral exploration activities and mining operations shall not only be pro-environment but also pro-people.
The scope of the recognition includes environmental management and protection, enhancement of mining areas, community development, rehabilitation and final decommissioning.
To be specific, Agata bagged top honors for upholding the Philippine mining industry’s highest safety and environmental standards as witnessed by delegates and dignitaries from all parts of the country and abroad.
TVIRD operates the Agata Nickel Project in the adjacent municipalities of Tubay, Santiago and Jabonga in Agusan del Norte Province and is certified ISO 14001:2015 compliant.
“Despite the vast challenges in the global markets, the shifting landscape of Philippine legislation and recent natural catastrophes that have affected the country’s mining industry, we are proud to say that our state of unity has never been stronger,” said Agata General Manager Engr. Emilio Figueroa III.
“At this most opportune time, this win heralds a new hope for clarity, understanding and the forthcoming revitalization of the Philippine mining industry,” he concluded.
