CARRASCAL, Surigao del Sur — Recognizing its effort to maintain the highest business standards, British certifying organization National Quality Assurance (NQA) has recommended the Integrated Management System (IMS) certification of Marcventures Mining and Development Corporation (MMDC).

The recommendation was based on the first Surveillance Audit conducted by NQA in October, 2018, one year after MMDC obtained its 2017 IMS certification, according to Angel Cao, MMDC Compliance and ISO Officer.

In 2017, MMDC received three ISO certifications for Environment Management System (ISO 14001:2015), Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 18001: 2007).

Cao said NQA’s recommendation reflects MMDC’s quest for attaining higher level management standard, as well as its “ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.”

During the two-day Surveillance Audit, Cao said MMDC’s operational standards and practices were closely monitored.

“To keep the IMS certification the organization must have an in-depth understanding of the system’s requirements, this means proper maintenance and continuous improvement and process upgrading,” he said.

Nevertheless, Cao said the company passed the Surveillance Audit through the guidance and support of MMDC President Yulo E. Perez and IMS committee, headed by General Manager Rodrigo C. Cal.

Credit also goes to the company’s ISO “core team”– composed of department heads, internal auditors, the document controller as well as the departmental document custodians.

“The IMS committee, the scope owners, and the contractors involved in every audit also play an important role in the recertification,” he added.

Cao rallied MMDC personnel to maintain the ISO certifications in the coming years, because it stands for the company’s desire to attain excellence and maintain its reputation as a responsible miner.
